This year’s February brought on a new spring, and, with it, my renewed sense of wonder, as I watch each tree prepare to blossom and bloom in any conditions, wherever it is planted. It is this that moves me: that any fruit tree blooms, even the most humble cherry plum trees which grow besides the railways, beside derelict factories, beside barracks, beside dumpsters, beside car repair shops. beside depressing blocks of flats – wherever they are, they bloom with abundant generosity, however ugly the environment they are in. They give it their all, wherever they are planted.
I am addicted to beauty in all its forms, I need it to thrive. So when I received (bundled up in bed, with a flu) these photos by email, I found them to be so very delicately beautiful that it moved me to tears. The photos you are about to see are the result of a collaboration with Flori de Mentă (cakes), Bloom Bloom (flowers) and Deer’s Photography (photos).
I created a small series of ceramic stoneware especially for this photo shoot, inspired by Floriana’s sweet and natural styling. All the pieces are handbuilt into organic shapes, one of a kind pieces in off-white stoneware, light pink, grey and white underglaze, sheer glaze and glossy white glaze.
Even though we live 3/4 of a country away from each other, Floriana of Flori de Mentă, the mind&soul of this precious styling session, and, obviously, the fab cake maker that she is, made it all happen. The blooms prepared by Laura & Andreea of Bloom Bloom are oh-so-pretty, the lighting and the atmosphere of the photos taken by Deer’s are delicious, and I, well, couldn’t be happier that my ceramics were part of this lovely day of styling.
Enjoy these photos and enjoy this coming spring!
